Ketzia believes that if there is joy in the music and in playing, then everything else will follow naturally. This is the throughline of her pedagogy — her easygoing yet focused approach provides students the framework for disciplined study, and she encourages a willingness to fail, as those lessons in standing up again are necessary not only in the pursuit of piano mastery, but with anything in life. By sharing her love and knowledge of piano and music theory, she hopes to nurture the distinct musicianship that resides in each and every student
Ketzia Lee began her piano studies at the age of 7, demonstrating a genuine love of the instrument
through her consistent practice even without having a teacher. She studied for 2 years with pianist Jung
Lin before she was awarded the Recanati-Kaplan Merit Scholarship from the 92nd Street Y School of
Music. Under this full scholarship, she studied with pianist Avner Arad from 2011 to 2018, performing
regularly in the Y’s Buttenweiser Hall, Warburg Lounge, and Weill Art Gallery. In Fall 2017, Ketzia was
a finalist and awarded "Best Chopin Performance" in the Claudette Sorel Piano Competition at Fredonia
University. Ketzia attended Kinhaven Music School’s Senior Session in the summer of 2016 and 2017,
which fostered her love of chamber music. Following this experience, Ketzia joined the New York Youth
Symphony Chamber Music Program, playing in a piano quartet from 2016-2018. In Spring 2017, they
performed at Carnegie Hall, premiering the program’s annual commissioned piece, “Sunburst” by Charles
Peck. She and her quartet also performed at master classes with renowned artists such as Gil Kalish, the
Shanghai Quartet and Hsin-Yun Huang. During her college years, Ketzia studied under pianist Gilles
Vonsattel at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, followed by Prof. Jiayan Sun at Smith College.
